Those who are in charge today (as in leaders of governments or CEOs of big companies) were, with very few exceptions, born no later than the 1960s, maybe early 1970s, and were often already rising their own children in the 1980s. Thus OP (if he is among those who grew up in the 1980s) decried the generation of his parents as the "pussies who took over", to which i actually agree to some extent.
