I needed a tall trash can in order to keep my little dog from getting into it. This is perfect, tall enough that he can't reach the top and solid so he can't knock it over. I love the way the inner liner lifts and can be propped up, slightly elevated, in order to remove and replace the plastic bag. I use the bags Simple Human sells to fit perfectly so the bag is hidden by the top when it is installed. I don't have much trash so one bag lasts an entire week for me. The lid keeps any odors inside the can. The touch-bar is truly easy to use; if you have your hands full, you can touch it with a forearm, elbow, or even your hip. The stainless steel looks great and fingerprints wipe off easily.

I don’t know why but i spent weeks looking for trash can that was right for the space I had available. Spent lots of time reading reviews. This one some buyers mentioned damaged products etc but not my case. I took a chance and just said I would return it if it came damaged. But no mine was in perfect condition.

This trashcan really saves space as it's definitely smaller than the two 13 gal trashcans I was using for kitchen garbage and recycling. Looks a lot better too. I use grocery store brand 13 gal trashbags and they work just fine. Easy to line and remove. Easy to clean. It's not a true metal trashcan, but if it was I'd never be able to lift it. My toddler tripped into it and made a small but noticeable dent in the stainless steel veneer. So, don't do that, but really I can't think of any complaints.

HIghest recommendation for this touch bar trash can. It's a superior design to the foot pedal can. A pedal can requires mechanical linkage from the pedal to the lid, and this linkage has to make two right-angle turns at back and top. The joints of the linkage take tremendous force, because the pedal has only a short movement to cause a larger movement at the lid, and there are two right-angle turns the linkage has to make in between. What this adds up to is noise in the mechanical parts as they creak under the strain, and broken parts--the Oxo that this one replaced had plastic pieces in the linkage that just broke after a time, because they couldn't take the load. And it was a $100 can at the time I bought it. By eliminating all the connecting rods and joints leading from the pedal to the lid, you eliminate noise and broken parts. Another thing you need to know about this one, is that the touch bar does work. It's not tricky, you don't have to develop a touch--it works right away. Took me about 5 uses to get used to pushing down rather than lifting up--now it's like I always did it that way. Lots of times, when I'm at the sink or counter my fingers are sticky or wet and I don't want to touch the bar with them--I just hit it with the heel of my hand or wrist or whatever. It's actually more convenient than the pedal, in that your feet can stay wherever they are. Separate the can in your mind from the Simplehuman custom bags. You don't need the bags, and I actually prefer to use the 13-gallon Glad Force flex bags I've been using. When you buy the can, Simplehuman packs 10 bags with it, so you can try them out for yourself and see what you think. I find the Simplehuman bags a little tight--they make them that way so there's a tight fit around the top. But the Simplehuman bags are solving a problem that's not there in the first place. When I put the 13-gal Glad flex bag in, I just gather up the inch or two of extra until there's a good fit around the top of the liner, and then push the gathered 'extra' through a little hole that's in the back of the lift-out liner--you push it through the hole from the outside to the inside, and it ends up out of sight, out of mind. If anything, it's a little less annoying than stretching the Simplehuman custom bag over the liner, although neither present a problem. People are correct to raise questions about the bags, but truly, you can use whatever bag you want to use. The size differences--8.5 gal can versus 13 gal bag in my case--are meaningless. You don't end up with a sloppy fit, because it's easy to make gathers and tuck them out of sight. One reason I prefer to keep using the 13 gal Glad bags is that I can put extra stuff into the bag when I pull it out if I want--like refrigerator leftovers that need to go away. There's just no downside. It's logical that Simplehuman would want to sell custom bags, but pay no attention to the hype, you don't need them, or even want them. This can looks good. The coating they put on it does work. It resists prints and smudges--wipes clean immediately. And the touch bar lid is a vast improvement over the pedal. Edit: P. S.--To the reviewer who said his has a handgrip in front: The hand grip goes in back. Just lift off the top, turn the lower can so that the grip faces to the rear, and replace the top. Done.

Researched this product for month and finally went for it. So glad I did. It works perfectly and is very pretty. I used to have two separate trash cans for my recycling but now I have this convenient all in one trash can. It’s a bit pricy but I guarantee it will last for a long time. I use regular 13 gallon trash bags from Costco and it fits perfectly fine as long as I tie the ends. Not a big deal at all.

I purchased this can over a year ago after researching dog proof garbage cans. My yellow lab would knock over our old can every day and help herself to the contents. I tried several different cans, nothing worked. We even started placing our can on top of the kitchen table, but she still got up there and spilled it out all over. Finally, my oldest son suggested that we research dog proof cans. This can was rated #2 on my list, and it was VERY expensive for my price range, but we went for it. It's been over a year now, and my dog has NOT EVEN ONCE spilled the contents of this can! On top of that, I love that it has recycling on one side and green waste on the other (at least that's how we use it). I love the simple human bags that just fit perfectly for the recycling side, then we use the green waste biodegradable green bags on the other side. The can looks really nice in the kitchen as well. Despite the price, this can is definitely worth every penny I paid for it.

We've had this for about three months now and I'm very satisfied with this purchase. Some of the other reviewers questioned whether you can use regular garbage bags and you absolutely can, but I do prefer the custom-sized ones, as it's just a more seamless and easy fit. Also some people complained about the small size of each bin (trash and recycle) but I have found we empty them about once a week (there are two adults in our household) and with this frequency it doesn't get too overfilled or smelly. Overall the unit works great, was exactly as described, and good quality for the price.

Very happy with this can, as it eliminated the need to have separate trash and recycling cans in my kitchen. While some may prefer the cans that auto-open and/or auto-close, I also specifically wanted a can where the lid would remain open so while I'm prepping, cooking, or cleaning I'm not having to repeatedly trigger it. There is a noticeable reduction in size going from 2 cans that each held 13 gallon bags to 2 compartments designed for 8.5 gallon bags, but I find that for 1-2 people this can is ideal in that yes, it's maybe one more trip out to the garbage cans per week, but at the same time, why would I want to be keeping trash and recycling in the kitchen longer anyway? I also did start out using the reminder of my 13 gallon bags for the trash side (I don't bag the recycling side, as it is so easy to clean if any liquids end up in there by accident) and they work just fine (though you obviously can't fill them up entirely), but have since switched to the simplehuman bags because even though they cost a little more, I felt like I was unnecessarily consuming plastic by using larger bags.

Nice size for 2 people, recycle side fits plenty of items. Trash side works good for us. Larger family may want something bigger for trash. Removable bins work really well when time to empty and having correct size bags a must for proper fit with lid on.

This is the best trash can we've ever owned. We needed a new trash can to compliment our new kitchen remodel, and after bringing home a few less-expensive trash cans from local department stores then returning them because they didn't look good or didn't work well, we decided to splurge and spend 100+ for the perfect trash can. I've never dreamed of spending so much money on something I'm going to load up with trash, but I ended up doing just that and I have no regrets. This can is beautiful, works great, seems to be of very high quality, and has awesome features (no-fingerprint surface and the trash bag doesn't show).
